Lewa Conservancy, covering 65,000 acres, offers dramatic views of Mt. Kenya to the south and arid lands to the north. Established in 1983 as a rhino conservancy, it is renowned for its successful breeding programs for rhinos and Grevy's zebras, housing 10% of Kenya's rhino population and 20% of the world’s Grevy's zebras. The fenced conservancy employs over 150 rangers and supports neighboring communities through its Community Development Program, providing healthcare, education, micro-finance, and water projects to share the benefits of wildlife conservation.
